FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING: Roles of the Professional Nurse

CARE PROVIDER – considered as the ‘mothering actions’ of a nurse.
COMMUNICATOR – communicating that shapes relationships with the nurses and clients, nurses and support persons (these identify not only the family members but friends as well), and nurses and colleagues (this will facilitate the continuity of care for the patient).
TEACHER – learning experience facilitated by the nurse (considered to be the health education / health promotion for the patient)
COUNSELOR – the role that helps the patient recognizes and copes with problems.
CLIENT ADVOCATE – in simple terms, this is protecting the client’s rights.
CHANGE AGENT – initiating changes and helps in modification in their lifestyle.
LEADER – uses interpersonal influence in making decisions and achieving goals.
MANAGER – sometimes confusing with the concept of leaders but managers are mostly concerned with planning, organizing, directing and controlling (PODC)
RESEARCH CONSUMER – a role makes use of a product that can enhance client care.
